Tried installing the facebook App, it seems to load for a while, but then it just tells me there is no internet connection. Turning of the firewall does solve the problem, but it kind of defeats the purpose of having a anti-virus program. Disabling the firewall and turning it back on again will accomplish the same thing in which it is only fixed for a short while and than the issue starts again.
Please follow these steps I listed above, also please look in "Social Protection" in the History drop down. I deleted my Norton history, then i did go to facebook and norton is blocking my facebook on every web browser for me. The firewall history does not show anything, facebook only works if i disable the Norton firewall.
Can you check the rest of History, trying to help narrow this down. As far as the fault of the issue, I would more then likely blame Facebook before Norton, as not one user in this thread has mentioned any other sites they have this issue with, it is more then likely 3rd party traffic from facebook being blocked by Norton. It is why I recommended the ad blocker above. I am not having this issue with facebook, and have Norton Security on two machines.
If Norton is the only firewall that is having issues with Facebook than it is hard to blame Facebook for the problem. Unfortunately, the ad blocker you mentioned, which I tried, has no effect on the problem. It is not just a Facebook issue.
I have encountered a related issue on another website as well. I think it may be an issue with a component of some websites in general, rather than something specific to Facebook.
The point is to figure out what Norton is interfering with that causes a loss of some Facebook functionality. SendOfJive can you show me this website please? News stories wont load, or load very slowly. Turn off the firewall, and it all works great. Turn off IPV6 on the adapter, it also seems to work just fine. But I'd like to have the firewall on, use facebook and have IPV6 on my computer. Any chance on fixing this probelm? This is exactly what I'm trying to accomplish here and so far this is what we have learned.
You are the first person in this thread to mention another website issue besides facebook losing functionality. We can deduct that since facebook loads, but only partially, that obviously it is not a main URL blacklist issue, no logs are generated from those that have checked in the thread, in firewall history, there are no prompts from the webfilter, adding a ad blocker for one user in this thread cleared up the issue for them.
I am running two machines on this network set up the same, with NS and using Google Chrome and am not experiencing this issue with any websites including Facebook. From what I gather here, it is looking much like either a 3rd party site plugin or traffic more then likely Norton is hammering, why it is not being logged in any shape or form, and what exactly it is blocking are both good questions at this point.
There may be logs, but a Norton Employer would have to give directions on how to gather the logs and how to upload to Norton. It is not a 3rd party site plugin. I have tried Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. I tried Firefox with out any plugins. The problem continues. What may be one of the issues for Norton, as mentioned above, is handling Facebook and IPv6. As noted above, a possible solution is to use Firefox and disable the IPv6 setting.
See the following for directions:. Firefox supports IPv6 by default, which may cause connection problems on certain systems. To disable IPv6 in Firefox:. In the address bar , type about:config and press Enter.
Back to top. Steelhand Contributor 4. Reg: Mar This forum thread needs a solution. Kudos 0. Any ideas? Labels: Firewall. I have the same question 3 Stats. WNiles Newbie 1. Sadly, it did not fix it. Version Same here, have not found a solution yet. Reg: Nov I turned off IPv6 support for Firefox. Facebook loads fine now.
I don't use firefox , use Chrome, don't see how to do that in Chrome. Anyone know? Does turning that off effect other things? Not sure what else to try, don't see a way to disable IPv6 just in Chrome.
Switch0r Contributor 4. Reg: Oct This problem is started a few months back. The only fix is to disable or remove Norton for me. SoulAsylum Guru Norton Fighter I fixed it by disabling the norton firewall. Reg: Apr Like loading notification list, online people list and uploading images I would really like a solution instead of constantly disabling the firewall.
Things happen. Not sure if there is any difference than the commercial version. I am running Windows It also has a firewall which is running. Since there is already protection how much risk is there turning off the Norton firewall to solve this issue? Again, try having Windows Network Diagnostics reset the network adapter you are using and then refresh the browser. This has resolved the issue for me when it occurs and I am very curious to see if it is an adapter issue for others as well.
You should find that Windows Firewall is off when any third party firewall is installed. Then under Network Firewall, click on View installed firewall apps. That should show Norton and Windows firewalls listed, but with Windows turned off. So temporarily disabling Norton Firewall will not re enable the Windows firewall.
The only way to do that is to uninstall Norton. The suggestion to reset the network adapter is not a fix. It accomplishes the same thing as disabling the firewall and enabling it again. The problem will resolve itself for a short time and than it reoccurs. It isn't just a Facebook issue. I use other websites that have similar issues. Norton is involved, but the fact that resetting the network adapter fixes the problem at least for the moment would imply that the firewall is doing something to the internet connection, and not simply blocking anything specific to Facebook.
If, as in the old days of XP in order to fix a problem like this, I opened my computer, unplugged the network adapter card that wasn't working right, plugged in a new one, and added the right drivers for the new card, and it happened again then I might start looking at my modem and its related settings.
Today when I reset my network adapter I'm actually using a software interface, albeit an OS interface, that probably knows what's going on with the Windows Firewall which is being controlled by Norton and resets it. Adding to that, I and others who have posted on elsewhere seem to have no problem going through the our modem to Facebook using Android and iOS devices tends to make me not look at hardware and network issues.
It's a "device" with Window OS running Norton that causes the problems. It wouldn't surprise me if it occurred while accessing other sites, but I've accessed websites in the last month and have only run into on www.
IMHO it is nothing more or less than a Norton problem. I can live with it for awhile, but Norton must fix it. It will be hard since it is intermittent so I'll give them a pass for now, particularly since it involves Facebook, one of the two greediest megacompanies on the internet. Workaround until, if ever, Norton figures out what is causing the problem and fixes it is to use Firefox and turn off IPv6.
Firefox supports IPv6 by default, which may cause connection problems on certain systems. To disable IPv6 in Firefox:. In the address bar , type about:config and press Enter. You are correct. I had no problems. For a particular reason I used Microsoft Edge and the problem appeared. I switched off the IPv6 protocol on my computer's network adapter and, lo and behold, the problem disappeared.
The problem is not browser-specific. Given those parameters, I'm glad I'm not the person looking for the cause of the problem. Windows 10 Home version , OS Build I normally use Chrome. I have the browsers in order to check that my software is working. I disabled the smart firewall on my Norton a couple of days ago and now I have no problems on Facebook, or starting applications which I know are safe including a number of Web sites that I designed myself.
But I may be taking some risks. I certainly don't surf porn sites I have never clicked on links from email senders whom I don't know , and and I don't click on links within known friendly Web sites like the New York or Los Angeles Times which promise to "scan my computer.
In March, when I first contacted Norton about this issue, I was somewhat put out that they didn't seem to know about the problem, and I have been pretty sore about this. But I don't intend to dwell on this forever. I discovered today that an old phone message that I wasn't aware of was a follow-up call from a Norton tech who had first guided me through creation of a firewall rule after I granted him remote access to my computer.
I think he was in India. I only know he was outside the United States. At the time, his firewall rule solved the problem for a few days until Microsoft did another one of their periodic updates. So the situation stands: my Smart Firewall is disabled and I stay away from thin ice, so to speak. I would like to receive better protection than that since after all I paid for it. And now, as I angrily wrote a few days ago, I'm out of here. I hope someone at Symantec or Norton will notify the news media when they're ready to admit guilt for not acknowledging the problem back in March.
I installed Norton Internet Security a few days ago and facebook main newsfeed page and messenger sidebar stopped fully loading, and I could not upload pics I'm using Windows I followed the Step by step guide on adding Facebook specific traffic rule into my smart firewall Hopefully a patch will come coz I could never imagine some friends coping with this manual adjustment!
Cheers Norton. What has happened with some of these "fixes" is they will work temporarily but the problem returns after a short while. For example, turning off the firewall and than turning it back on results in the problem going away but than it later returns.
Please let us know if this is a permanent fix for you. Could you please add Facebook specific allow traffic rule posted here and let us know if you are still facing this issue? I am away from home, will try these steps tomorrow night when home and let you know. Thank you. It did not resolve the issue. I have to turn off the Stateful Protocol Filter in order to use Facebook. The Firewall blocks Messages using the browser, notifications, and uploading pictures and videos.
I am on Windows Windows 10 Home Vs. OS Build I also tried Edge and IE with the same results. My Norton version is the free version downloaded from Comcast as many others have stated here. Yes I put the two traffic rules in back when you posted it. Seemed to help at first and then went back to the same problem. The thing is I can open FB and it works fine at first, but then after about 15 minutes on there going through my notifications and then browsing the news feeds it starts to act up and stop loading.
I then close it and turn off my smart firewall and reopen FB and it works fine. I am running Norton Security. I also have Comcast but do not believe it is covered by a Norton product. Maybe I should find out, because I have always heard that if you are running 2 anti virus programs there can be conflicting problems. Yahoo Mail has a similar problem to this one and it started way before this one with FB. Yahoo Mail takes a long time to load when working with retrieving your mail. Sometimes it is near impossible to type an email as it lags as you are typing.
There are many complaints on this for a long time. The consensus there from users is the ads that are to the right of your email constantly changing and some of them taking a while to load are the problem. I have seen this happen with an online game called World Golf Tour which is a web based game.
When they put in new ads, all of a sudden there are problems with the game. I think it is the same problem we are experiencing with FB and Norton. I don't think any of these sites screen their ads well enough. Who knows what kind of trackers or malware are in them. I feel violated that when I shop online for products and then I go to FB or my email provider or most sites and there is an ad for where I was just shopping. For this reason I am not sure it is a Norton problem.
Next, click the Edit option and then choose Full Trust option. If the problem persists, then try resetting the printer and perform the configuration settings from the beginning. In the My Norton Window, click Open. Open the Settings window. Click Firewall in the Settings window. Next, click the slider to off position in the General Settings tab. The Protection Alert dialog box will appear.
From the drop-down menu, select Apply and then choose Permanently. Then, tap, OK. Make sure to restart the computer. Norton Firewall Blocking File Sharing If Norton firewall blocks file sharing, it is because the application's default configuration prevents file sharing and remote desktop.
Launch the Norton application on your computer and navigate to the My Norton window. Click Open. Click the Settings option and then choose Firewall. Navigate to the General Settings tab which is located under Network Settings. Click the Configure button beside Network Trust. Now you can check the trust level of your network. Norton Firewall Blocking Wireless Printer Generally, Norton firewall blocks wireless devices, file sharing, and some services for security purposes.
Navigate to the computer's Start menu and locate the Control Panel option. Find the Printers on the list and locate the printer for which wireless connection has to be enabled.
Make a note of it. Launch the Norton application on your computer and click the Tasks option. Click the Edit option located next to Trust Level. Here is the first method: Navigate to the system tray on your computer and right-click the Norton icon. Select the Options button and then click Norton Internet Security.
Click the Personal Firewall option and then choose Trust Control. Click OK. Click OK again to apply these changes. Here is another method to bypass Norton firewall and use a VPN service. Open Norton on your computer and click the Settings option. Find the Firewall option and click it. Choose the Program Rules option and then click Add. Go to the File window and click the Select a program option.
